Partners of the Dundee Mill and Park was formed in 1996 when the
Town of Osceola adopted a resolution declaring the Dundee Mill Park a historical
site.
The group consists of area people interested in preserving and restoring
this historical gem without using tax money. The Town of Osceola owns the
property. The directors handle all facets of operation and projects relating
to the property. This includes regulating the dam to state regulations,
maintaining the millrace, ponds, and surrounding areas, obtaining permits,
securing equipment and supplies, keeping records, budgeting and fund raising.
This group reports directly to the board of the Town of Osceola.
A donation of $7,000 from Jim and Ruth Tobin kicked off funding for the
restoration. Fundraisers such as picnics, raffles, and placemats, plus
donations from area businesses, organizations and individuals, have supported
much of the restoration.
In 1997 the Partners and the Town of Osceola joined in an agreement with
Alliant Electric Co. that purchases electricity generated by the mill turbine.
Three projects on the grounds have been completed as Eagle Scout
projects for area youths. These are the development of a nature trail that
includes identification tags on some flora and fauna, construction of the wooden
stairs and handrail on the hill, and restoration of the band shell.
